Equulei studio
I've been writing, recording, and playing electronic, experimental, chill, whatever tunes for about 15 years. becoming more and more of a gear whore and collector.
Some other gear not listed below includes:
--Dell Dimension desktop, 2ghz, 2G RAM, extra frills and drives, etc
--Dell laptop for the live sets
--Atari 2600 Synthcart by qotile.net (amazing bass tones!)
--Alesis HR-16b circuit bent by diabolical devices
--Speak and Spell circuit bent by fastmatt
--Lexan SID 6581 homemade synth
--Old Paia hybrid 2700 and 4700 modular synth
--dimension beam infrared MIDI controller (this was the device roland bought the patent to i think, and then started putting it on their own devices)

Equulei studio Studio Gear:
Korg Prophecy
since this is the first one on the list, let me just say that i FREAKIN LOVE all of my synths. i did my homework and feel like i made the right choice every single time. each one has its quirks and pro/con lists... but in whole, each has its own feel and sound, none are so generic or difficult that they sit to the side for months at a time. seeing as how i am a big proponent of hardware collection, however, i aspire to grow this list and still say i love them all, whether there are 5 or 50 of them. ------ the first synth i ever purchased, back when it was brand new! this is a great mono modeling synth, and focuses on modeling a lot of breath/wind instruments. however, it is very good at producing long droning ambience as well. currently on loan to the pete wall project (experiemntal jazz trio) to do a total cover of radiohead's "ok computer".
Kurzweil K2500RS
The kruzweil, as most will tell you, is unbelievably powerful. it is the heart and soul of my studio, and its possibilities are hard to limit. make no mistake however, this synth is not a "open the box and twiddle some knobs" kind of thing. it is a complex programming system and takes a long time to learn well. i can safely say it took me a couple years before i was using it to its full potential. the two manuals stacked together are about the size of a medium sized cities phonebook. and trust me you cannot just play around to learn it, you have to refer to the manuals every so often to find what you need (well, until you've spent many many hours working on it exclusively). while some of the other synths in the arsenal could be supplanted with others for awhile, i could not do without this one for long. its that awesome. anyway, it has 128m samples, 8 outs, distinct effects routing on every stereo out (called KDFX), almost unlimited routing options, etc. and its a tank. SCSI allows connect to zip/jaz/cdrw/HD, you name it.
E-mu Systems ESI 2000
i actually own the ESI 32, but it is a very similar model to this, just slightly older. i used this quite a bit for a year or so, but in the end i gravitated back to the kurzweil because its so much more powerful. it comes in handy for a few single keymap-type samples, but for the more complex programming and drum maps it just takes way too long.
Roland SH-101
great old classic synth, i use it usually to record sounds rather than trying to get MIDI/CV conversion to work right, which seems skethcy with this box in particular. grey version rather than the stock blue pic.
Novation Supernova II rack
this one replaced the first nord we used (have since repurchased a nord 2), and it became my staple for a long time. i think it is best for the smoother pads and ambience.

Korg MS2000 Rack
i like this synth a lot, and it is underrated IMHO. plenty of programmability, and i think its best for basses as far as VA's go.
Vermona DRM1 MKII
this is a fantastic all-analog drum machine, not the wannabe's with mostly samples that call themselves analog. the control surface rocks, and allows for major control and super tweaks that can make some very out-of-this world "percussive" noises. that and the kicks you can get will destroy speakers. i have the all silver w/ silver knobs version. looks sweet.
Clavia nord rack 2
the NORD is such a legendary synth, most know that it is rockin. i really like the sound and feel of VA's (yes purists, i realize the diff and also like a lot of analogue), and this one is probably near the top of that list. nord is best for the more aggressive and whacky sounds.
Alesis HR-16
circuit-bent version of this (done by diabolical devices) - puts lots of patches on the top, and some switches. sounds AWESOME! the stock sounds are relatively weak, but i can get this thing screaming with the mods.
Novation Super Bass Station
A recent addition to the studio; really wanted a bass station anyway, but picked it up as a good deal and so i could use the MIDI to CV conversion ports also for my older synths.

Doepfer A-100 Basic System 2
not the pre-packaged system, list of modules: harvestman 2012, harvestman1986, doepfer a131, a140, a115, a116, a145, a156, a114, a118, a111, a147, a180, ASol VCA2, MFB Dual ADSR, tiptop z3000, tiptop z5000, livewire AFG, livewire dual bissell, ASys rs30, rs165, rs60, rs510e, rs110, rs100, rs180, rs140

Yamaha DX7 MKII
found this for a super bargain and picked it up because i always loved the sounds i could get out of the soft synth version (FM7). am still struggling to figure out how best to program it, and have not had very good luck with the management software out on the net. tried some sysex pushes, etc. this thing definitely has potential - i just need to figure out how to squeeze some out of it.
Korg Polysix
Sold to me by a good friend out of Chicago for really cheap - thanks Kev!!! great synth, great sound, but needs some work. when i get it back in primo shape i will update my review.
Korg Kaoss Pad
bought two of these way back when - both had bad pots but i recently got my wife to help me find some solder and an iron, opened it up thinking worst that can happen is it still won't work... but we fixed it completely instead. i love these things!
Gemini XL-200
this thing sucks but i'm not a dj so i get what i need from it. technics are pretty far down on my list with limited funds.
Pioneer CMX3000
i actually have the cmx 5000's but this is close enough. don't use them much anymore since i discovered the beauty of playing ableton live, but they are decent cd mixers for how old they are.
ART Pro VLA
Pro VLA II - not listed but this is close enough
Tannoy system15dmtII
I actually have the PB 8 mkII, but these have been discontinued. these monitors are very similar to each other, so i chose this from the list. great self-powered and bi-amped/crossed over internally, for a great sound, but a little old nowaydays.
Mackie 1402vlzpro
Use this occasionally to tie several synths into a single mix, occasionally live when the larger band makes me drag it out. great quality, lasted forever, just not my primary
Electrix Warp factory
after my experience with the EQ killers, i kept this in studio and it still works great. i use it mostly for tweaking drums. vocoders are sweeeet.
Lexicon mpx500
simple and great sounding multi-effects outboard, lexicon never disappoints. see other gear for other lexicon, but i have never had a piece of lexicon gear that i was disappointed with.
Lexicon LXP-15
older but high-end reverb unit. lexicon is best known for extremely high-quality reverb, and this is a mid-grade unit. unfortunately it is currently not workign right, and given that i have a bunch of other options, i have not looked for a place to get this repaired.
TC Electronic d two
while moving away from outboard effects, i swear by this unit for the unique bounces it can do. fun and easy, and goddammit its hardware, so that makes it cool. That and TCE has always made very solid quality stuff.
Sherman Filterbank 2
LOVE this filter - i have the rackmount version, however. puts the electrix stuff to shame (not saying i don't like those too)
Mackie Onyx 32-4
this is my brand new baby. had a behringer 24/4 for years (and despite what they tell you about behringer, it lasted for years and i only spent a few huns) - but when it finally died, i upgraded to this and ohhhh mama.... mackie does it right, and i got the live board to keep options open even though it stays exclusively in my studio. wanted the extra headroom, the mic preamp possibilities, fuller EQ and onboard compressions, etc
Electrix EQ killer
I've got two of these and neither power up any more after some ass spilled wine all over it at a show. while they were alive they were THE SHIT. if anyone ever reads this and knows where i can find the electrical schematics and part #'s for everything, i would PAY YOU for it so i could repair these bad boys. electrix went out of business despite having a very solid reputation in dance/dj/electronic circles as being great little boxes.
MOTU MIDI Timepiece AV
MOTU is great, this does the job its supposed to with simplicity and no weirdness. not much else to say here.
Info@Gearjunkies | Other studios with MOTU MIDI Timepiece AV
Lexicon Vortex
older and simple echo/delay processor, does some really cool patterns and crazy laserdrones that can go on forever if you let it.
M-Audio Omni I/O
people are pretty down on M-Audio stuff... this and the other delta 44 i have (not in the gearlist) have worked fine for a lot of years for me and seem to be relatively clean sounding. like a MIDI patchbay for me, thats about all i ask for, as my instruments are what define things in the end, not my soundcard. ultra audiophiles can just agree to disagree on this one.
PreSonus ACP88
i LOVE this compression unit. i don't think i've ever even used all 8 channels of discrete, but its very nice to be able to divide out your kicks from your leads on separate level sets in an analog environment (as opposed to compressing in SF/CB/AL/whatever).
PreSonus BlueTube DP
just purchased, my intent is to feed some of the wilder synths or circuit bends through some genuine tube amp gear to warm it up a bit, and intentionally give it a little overdrive. the reviews are overall good, except people said its overdrive could get a little distortion, to which i acknowledged that is the kind of thing i am hoping for. like the sound overall, but some of the much more aggressive sounds fed through this get affected on the front end slightly almost as if there is a amp env on it and the attack is not fully on, can't figure out why.
Sonic foundry soundforge 5.0
for the back-end work such as pulling and tweaking samples, some mastering but i usually try to master mostly direct from the hardware/mixer/etc.
Info@Gearjunkies | Other studios with Sonic foundry soundforge 5.0
Ableton Live 8
finally upgraded to live 8, lovin it!
Cycling 74 Pluggo
fantastic set of synths and effects with some great control options. i reccomend to anyone, especially for the price!
Fatar/StudioLogic SL161
simple, cheap, and effective to control all the studio synths. i could care less about action and feel as long as it triggers stuff, but my more astute keyboard friends don't like it.
Info@Gearjunkies | Other studios with Fatar/StudioLogic SL161
Evolution UC-33
used exclusively with ableton for the live rig
MOTU UltraLite
MOTU rocks, pure and simple. this tiny box i use live, but its better than the sound card i have for my home studio.
